Monthly Mac Cleanup Checklist

Follow this checklist every month to keep your Mac running smooth with plenty of free storage. Takes 10-15 minutes.

Step 1: Check Storage Status

Open System Settings > General > Storage. Note free space. Goal: maintain at least 15% free at all times.

Reclaim Mac finds and removes junk files automatically.

Step 2: Empty Trash

Right-click Trash > Empty Trash. Enable automatic emptying: Finder > Settings > Advanced > "Remove items from the Trash after 30 days."

Step 3: Clean Downloads Folder

Review ~/Downloads. Delete installers (.dmg, .pkg), old zip files, and documents you've already filed elsewhere.

Step 4: Clear Caches

Navigate to ~/Library/Caches and delete folder contents. Or run Reclaim Mac for automated cache detection and removal.

Step 5: Review Installed Apps

Open Applications, sort by size. Identify apps unused in 30+ days. Remove with AppCleaner for complete uninstallation.

Step 6: Check Browser Data

Clear old browsing data in your primary browser. Remove cookies for sites you no longer visit.

Step 7: Verify Storage Improvement

Check System Settings > Storage again. Compare with Step 1. You should see measurable improvement.
